THESIS: SOLIDWOOD ARCHITECTURE

thesis: solid wood architecture
Thesis is based on the concept that a building can be an embodiment of a tree in its mutualistic (both parties are positively impacted) symbiotic relationship with the occupants as well as its surroundings.
It’s AN EXPLORATION in design with cross laminated timber, an engineered form of wood, as a core structural material for a theater.
Designed in the seaport district of the city of Boston near the district court house, A theater was selected based on site surroundings and to suit the functionality and aesthetics of the material.
Cross laminated timber (CLT) has the strength to construct tall buildings and fire resistance enough to meet the fire codes.
The beauty of wood as a material has been showcased in the massive exposed timber columns and facade details which matches the artistic element of the building function. The insulative properties of wood also support the building functions while making the interior spaces a more comfortable environment.
